The construction of a new church has been planned since the town council meeting of January 15, 1852. Prior to this, Montussan had a chapel. A land swap was authorized between the Commune and Monsieur Assier de Montrose, then owner of Château Lamothe. The exchange was signed on July 20, 1853. The old chapel, built in the 13th century, was demolished on December 30, 1901. The cost was 46,910 francs, paid by the Commune (minus 5,000 francs from the State and 2,500 francs from the recovery of old materials). Cardinal Lecot solemnly blessed the church at the end of 1903. At last, Montussan had a church, built on communal land and unquestionably owned by the commune.
