Saint-Léonard Church, a Gothic jewel in the heart of Honfleur
Located at the entrance to the historic town center, the Church of Saint-Léonard is one of Honfleur?s most emblematic monuments. Built in the late 15th century on the ruins of an earlier edifice destroyed during the Hundred Years? War, its elegant, flamboyant Gothic facade is adorned with fine carvings and a remarkable, richly-decorated portal.
Its octagonal bell tower, rebuilt in the 18th century, rises above the local rooftops, providing a unique visual landmark from the surrounding streets. Inside, the soft light of modern stained-glass windows plays on the stone vaults, highlighting the varied furnishings that bear witness to the faith and history of the Honfleurais.
A lively place of worship, Saint-Léonard hosts concerts, services and tours throughout the year. The Place Saint-Léonard, with its lively terraces and market, is a charming setting for this church, which is both a heritage site and a convivial place where spirituality, art and local life come together.
