The Chaligny dwelling was built in the 16th century. As with many of the dwellings in the Poitou region, the castle and farm form a single building around a large courtyard. The gardens around the dwelling met the food and pleasure needs of a remote location.
Since 1992, the owner of the property has undertaken a thorough restoration of the gardens, based on the layout shown on the Napoleonic cadastre. With its kitchen garden, herb garden, hornbeam hedges, etc., the gardens of Chaligny are made up of many different worlds, making them a place of profound serenity.
