Let us tell you the story of this medieval fortress, built in the 11th century, which impresses with the strength of its defences and its 355-metre-long curtain wall. Standing 26 metres tall, the keep was converted into a residence by Catherine de Thouars, wife of the famous Gilles de Rais, who added elegant carved fireplaces and windows with seats.
The keep can be visited with a guide during the tourist season (see availability and booking details below) and all year round by prior booking for groups.
The grounds are open all year round to walkers and offer a magnificent panoramic view of the Vendée countryside, as well as picnic tables where you can enjoy a quiet meal.
