La Dive is the last island in the former Gulf of Pictons, now the Marais Poitevin, to be linked to the mainland.
A historic place of passage, perched 15m above an ocean of cereal fields that borders the Atlantic Ocean, it remains one of the few observatories in the area and enjoys an amazing circular view of the l'Aiguillon bay, the île de Ré, la Rochelle, and the interior of the Marais poitevin.
The viewpoint offers a wonderful panorama on the bay of Aiguillon, the cliffs north of La Rochelle, the bridge of Ile de Ré... you will find an orientation table, do not forget your binoculars!
It is a plateau of about 1 km long by 250 meters wide. The rocks are the most recent from the secondary era of the whole of the South Vendée. The tranquility of the place serves as a refuge for owls and frightened owls.
In addition, it has kept the remains of an old priory with its 12th century chapel, in Gothic style, dedicated to St Hilaire (private).
