Moulin de Thévalles

On the banks of the River Erve, at the foot of a beautiful 16th-century château, this water mill in Mayenne is open to visitors and is listed as a Historic Monument. Its current 30-tonne mechanism, the only one of its kind in western France, dates from 1850 and operates on 4 levels: it is driven by a water wheel 5.60 m in diameter and 2 m wide (the mill is started up each time you visit). An interesting insight into the know-how of the millers. On-site sale of spelt flour, "the queen of cereals", grown near the mill (organically-farmed products).
