Chapelle Sainte Apolline

Chapelle Sainte Apolline

Description

The young Egyptian virgin Apolline is found in hagiography (accounts of the lives of saints). The story goes that she was beaten in the face by the executioners of the Roman emperor Decius, because she refused to renounce her faith. As punishment, her teeth were pulled out with pliers.

At the beginning of the 19th century, Apolline became the patron saint of dentists, which is why people come to pray to her to relieve toothache.

The chapel is located on the site of the former Notre-Dame church, of which only the heart has been preserved.

It will be restored in 2019 with the support of the Fondation du Patrimoine and the commune of Drain. The work will involve restoring all the facades, replacing the entrance door with an identical one and refurbishing the bell tower.
