Legend has it that the Maréchal de Gié lost his dog, called Relais, on his way back from a pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela. But the faithful Relais returned exhausted and died at his master's feet some time later. Moved, he buried his faithful companion at the site of the meeting and had a small obelisk erected. Pious hands later added a cross, which came to be known as the "Dog Cross" or Bellecroix. It was restored in 1991 by Mr Fouiller, a stonemason.
