Description

The history of the Vendée Wars is illustrated by the stained glass windows in the church at Le Pin en Mauges. This building, rebuilt in the 19th century by Abbé Raimbault, is entirely dedicated to the battles of 1793 and to Generalissimo Jacques Cathelineau, a native of the area.

The 15 listed stained glass windows, created in the 1880s by Jean Clamens, a master stained glass artist from Angers, depict the key events and historic moments of the Vendée insurrection.

Designed in the style of a comic strip, these stained glass windows retrace the main episodes of the War and feature the generals who took part, including Cathelineau, Bonchamps, Charette and others. The finesse of the drawings and the attention to detail make these stained glass windows exceptional, to say the least.

And if you still want to find out more about the Vendée Wars, don't hesitate to ask for a visit to the museum of the same name.
