Martres-Tolosane, city of earthenware
Never interrupted since the 18th century, the earthenware makers use an ancient firing technique, the "Grand Feu" (firing the piece at a temperature of between 900 and 1000°C). The designs are still traced and painted by hand.

The round shape of the village of Martres-Tolosane seems to echo the gentle curves of the surrounding hills and terraces.
On the edge of the Pyrenean foothills, only sixty or so kilometres separate the Cité Artiste - Cité Faïencière from the pink city, the fiery Toulouse.
Here, the gentle curves of the Garonne undulate, the lively torrent freed from the grip of the mountains and transformed into a beautiful river.

Martres-Tolosane is a mysterious kingdom, miraculously preserved. This unique circular bastide is home to a rich heritage: the luxurious Gallo-Roman villa of Chiragan, which has revealed numerous remains, a keep, a church built over an early Christian necropolis (with numerous sarcophagi) and, above all, an earthenware heritage that is unique in France.
Today, this continuity is reflected in the presence of several workshops, heirs to this heritage. There's an art to our land!
