Refuge d'Ubine des Amis de la Nature de Thonon et du Chablais

Description

Located in the Ubine mountain pasture, at the foot of Mont Chauffé, this refuge is accessible by snowshoes and ski touring in winter and by foot and car in summer.
The chalet is accessible in winter on foot, snowshoes and skis in 2 to 3 hours, depending on snow conditions, from the start at La Revenette, about 1km from the village of Vacheresse.
Keys are available from the Café de la Mairie in Vacheresse.

Warning: this route is subject to mid-mountain conditions and should only be undertaken with full knowledge of the facts (snow cover can be very heavy and conditions difficult in bad weather).

In summer :
Numerous walks in the mountain pastures and mountain hikes from the refuge:
Pointe d'Autigny, Mont Jorat, Mont Chauffé, Col d'Ubine, Pointe de Lachau, Pas de la Bosse, Cornettes de Bise, mountain bike trails, visits to the Vallée d'Abondance and its villages.
The Swiss border is about 20 km away.

35 places in summer, divided into 2 dormitories + 3 rooms of 8 places.
In winter, only the 2 upstairs dormitories are open, for a total capacity of 19 places.
Sheets and/or sleeping bags and pillowcases required, comforters on site.
The refuge is equipped with a wood-burning stove and propane stove, cold water at the sink and hot water during the guarding period.

Common room: 32 people

Solar lighting. Flashlights are essential in winter.

Sanitary facilities: 1 outdoor toilet in all seasons, 1 indoor toilet only in summer. Washbasins and showers. Hot water in summer.

Supplies: On-site milk at nearby farm in summer.

Grocery store in Vacheresse, parking opposite the town hall.

Tips

Refuge near the GR5. Summits: Dent d'Oche, Cornettes de Bise, Mont Chauffé. Mont Chauffé: Complete ridge traverse, great interest, use of rope, good walkers. Cornettes de Bise: Remarkable viewpoint on traverse, numerous climbing routes for all levels. Numerous secondary summits accessible by family trails. Pastoral activity.

Conditions of access for motorized vehicles

Access by 4X4 is possible and authorized for emergency services.

Location complements

Nearest village or resort: Vacheresse. To get there from Thonon-les-Bains, take the D902 towards the ski resorts of Morzine, Avoriaz, Chatel and Abondance as far as Pont de Bioge (11kms). Then follow the D22 towards Chatel to the village of Vacheresse (9kms). At the entrance to the village, take the first road on the left that passes the main town, then continue through the hamlet of Villard (signposted Bise-Ubine). The road rises to the NE in the Eau Noire valley; at the first bridge (1211m), turn right onto a steep asphalt road rising to the Ubine alpine chalets. Parking on site in summer, or 2h snowshoeing or skiing in winter. Please note: narrow road accessible to cars only from May to September. Access possible by trail, with a donkey + specialized guide, on horseback, mountain bike, snowshoes, cross-country and cross-country skis, all-terrain wheelchair, wheelchair and joëlette. Food supplies available in Vacheresse, 8 km away. - IGN maps: 3528 ET
