The Roman milestone at Col du Jaillet and other classified monuments in Cordon

Situated on the Col du Jaillet, it marked the border between the Ceutrons and the Viennois (Allobroges) at the beginning of our era. At an altitude of 1723 m, it symbolizes the provincial boundary of the Roman Empire. It was listed in 1966
This granite milestone, erected by the Romans in 74 A.D., marks the boundary between two Celtic tribes: the rebellious Ceutrons and the Allobroges, subjugated by the Romans in 121 B.C. The inscription "Fines" comes from "Ad fines", which means "At the limits" in Latin. There are 2 other markers in the commune, one at Col de l'Avenaz and the other at Petit Croise Baulet. These markers have also been classified (in 1997). The route was to follow the Aravis chain, passing through the Pointe des Aravis, Etale, Mont Charvin... A booklet published by the Cordon Heritage Association is dedicated to them (sold at the Tourist Office).
