Luizet Waterfall

Description

Situated in a geological circus, the cascade falls from a height of 100m before flowing into the River Pernaz. This runs through a deep gorge before joining the Rhône.
The waterfall is accessible on foot (approx. 45-minute walk).
From the Onglas parking lot: Leave the parking lot on the left and turn right onto the path leading to the Luizet waterfall. Return along the same path. Allow 1h30 for the round trip.

The Cascade de Luizet is one of the beautiful surprises of the Rivière de la Pernaz, labelled "ENS*" by the Département de l'Ain in 2015.

True natural and landscaped jewels of the Ain department, sites with the ENS "*Espaces naturels sensibles" label are managed to preserve the biodiversity they host, and developed to be open to the public (barring exceptions due to the fragility of the environments).

This well-preserved river, whose karstic geology forms numerous waterfalls and creates highly fragile tufa habitats, has also been awarded the "Rivière Sauvage" label since January 2020.
