DÉCOUVERTES ROMANES - Circuit itinérant pour petits et grands

This "Découvertes Romanes" tour lets you stroll from village to village at your own pace, and combine it with the many suggestions put forward by the Fumel-Vallée du Lot Tourist Office, broadening your curiosity in the fields of heritage, gastronomy, walking and hiking in our region.

In the region, Romanesque art experienced its greatest development in the 12th century, benefiting from a calmer society and, above all, a demographic and economic boom. The result was a multitude of rural churches with very simple plans. Sculpture, where it existed, was rather basic, as communities did not have the means to employ experienced sculptors, with the exception of the priorale of Monsempron-Libos, which was dependent on the powerful abbey of Aurillac.

More than 65 churches have been identified in the Fumel Vallée du Lot area.
