Vincent Mauger?s La Pierre et le sablier, installed on the Tour Puchot of the Château de Caen, transforms space into an exploration of time and space. Composed of stacked metal blocks at the top and a hollowed-out cavity at the bottom, the work resembles a giant hourglass, with shapes that seem to warp and flow, representing the passage of time. The blocks, made of aluminum plates, are reminiscent of ancient building stones, yet light and modular. A walkway allows visitors to overlook the installation and observe its visual effect, creating a strange perception of depth. By integrating itself into the tower, a symbol of military power and resource exploitation, the work establishes a link between past and present, raising questions about time, space and the way we use natural resources.
