This house, Hermanville?s most famous, was built in 1889 by Hector Guimard. It is one of the finest surviving works by the great Art Nouveau architect.
It features a skilful interweaving of volumes and lines, including an astonishing curved faux pan de bois. The use of pebbles and shells gives the building its seaside character.
The enamelled lava plaque bearing the villa?s name on the portal comes from the Maison Gillet in Paris; the one bearing the architect?s signature has recently disappeared.
