The church, dedicated to Saint-Germain d?Auxerre, appears to have been built from the 13th century onwards (transept), then the 13th-14th (nave) and possibly the 15th (bell tower). The chapel of the Virgin Mary was added in the 15th century. Various modifications (addition of the sacristy) and restorations have led to its current appearance. The porch, for example, open on the north side, was modified twice, in 1752 and 1857.
The church and its immediate outbuildings belonged to the bishopric of Lisieux. It was part of the so-called Nonant exemption (an exemption is a portion of territory in one diocese, in this case that of Bayeux, belonging to another diocese, that of Lisieux).
The rest of the Verson lands belonged to the Abbey of Mont-Saint-Michel through the Barony of Bretteville-sur-Odon. This had been the case since 1015, when Duchess Gonnor, wife of Richard I of Normandy, donated the lands she had previously received as a dower.
