Listed as a Monument Historique on April 12, 1927, the origins of Notre-Dame de Putot church date back to the 12th to 14th centuries.
In M. de Caumont: sa vie et ses ?uvres, written by Eugène de Robillard de Beaurepaire (1874), the church at Putot en Bessin is described as having originally been in the shape of a cross, with the nave flanked by two chapels that were removed at an undetermined period. The now single nave features arched windows with colonnettes and two doors, one to the north and the other to the south. The southern door has long since been bricked up.
Entrance is therefore via the northern door. The arcaded modillions indicate a stylistic transition to Gothic art, and perhaps even to the architectural style developed in the region in the early years of the 13th century. This is difficult to confirm, however, as the church was severely damaged during the bombardments of the Second World War, and was largely restored afterwards.
