Serge Saint grew up in Asnelles, where his father was a schoolteacher. After studying electronics at the Lycée Laplace, he joined the large Caen companies Blaupunkt and RVI, before moving on to the scrap metal recovery company Breuil.
A keen rugby player, he helped found the Hérouville Rugby Club.
At the end of the 70s, going through a difficult personal period, he recovered scrap metal on his own account and began to take a close interest in sculpture. He settled on the Basly motocross course, living in rudimentary conditions in a mobile home. It was here that he devoted himself to his art, sculpting "to save
to save himself", he says.
He worked in wood, Caen stone, cellular concrete, then clay and plaster. Moore, Rodin and Brancusi inspire him. He wanted to think bigger, and launched himself into monumental sculpture, using polystyrene, fiberglass and polyester resin.
He struggled to make a living from his art, often fearing that he would not be able to afford the necessary materials, but he never ceased his quest.
In Thaon, he was able to pass on his passion to the young people he
courses. After his death, his sculptures were donated to the communes
who had supported him.
