Located along the Canal de Caen à la mer, on the Quai de Normandie in Caen, the two cranes were used to unload coal from the "France Charbon" factory on the Quai de Normandie (closed in 2008). They are one of the last vestiges of the industrial-port activity on the Quai du Nouveau Bassin, and have a strong heritage value.
Now non-functional but still standing, they have been renovated as part of the Nouveau Bassin project to preserve them (without putting them back into operation), showcase them and connect visitors to the site?s history.
