Commandery of Lacapelle-Livron

Description

The commandery, built in 1236, overlooks the Bonnette Valley in Lacapelle. It houses a chapel, a castle, and outbuildings, a legacy of the Knights Templar and the Knights of Malta. The church is open to the public at any time; the rest of the site is open during Heritage Days.
The commandery attested in 1236 dominates the valley of Bonnette and the village of Lacapelle, near Caylus, on the borders of Rouergue and Quercy. There remains the chapel which is the current village church, the two main buildings of the castle and outbuildings. The existing buildings still bear many traces of the history of the Knights of the Temple, then of their successors, the Knights Hospitallers of Jerusalem, known as "Rhodes" or "Malta", who occupied it until the Revolution.Free visit of the church. Open all year. The other private buildings can be visited during Heritage Days in june and september.
