On this journey, the edges of two castros are passed and there are two more in the vicinity. They are the castros of Bouzalonga, Vilalbarro, Os Vilares and A Santiña which are found by the side of this road, which demonstrates and corroborates the history of this route.
A “Castro” is a fortified settlement from the Iron Age and that may have been still occupied in Roman times. A little before entering the area of Oroso de Arriba (at the entrance of the Sigüeiro industrial estate) and amongst a dense forest, is the castro of Os Vilares with its circular shape, defensive embankments and its moat surrounding the “croa” or “crown” that was cultivated.
In another castro of Oroso, the castro of Recouso, a small amount of Castilian jewel treasure was found which is currently kept at the Pilgrimage Museum in Santiago de Compostela.
