National tour guide, writer and historian specializing in the Second World War, Jean-Charles Stasi has lived in Bayeux since 2013. To share his passion for history and Normandy, he offers off-the-beaten-track tours, based mainly on the many books he has written on D-Day and the Battle of Normandy.
A tour specially designed for families and young visitors.
From the arrival of the Germans on June 18, 1940, to General de Gaulle's historic visit on June 14, 1944, immerse yourself with me in the Bayeux of the Second World War. You'll follow in the footsteps of a young resident of the time, Claude Beaudry, whose life you'll discover thanks to documents and photos supplied to me by his family. During this visit to the heart of the city, unchanged for eighty years, I'll tell you about the daily life of the population, their relations with the occupying troops, the actions of the Resistance, not forgetting the rapid and undamaged liberation of this city, which in a few weeks became the first Allied capital in Europe. And you'll be surprised to discover the extraordinary destiny of young Claude Beaudry in the aftermath of June 14, 1944, which has gone down in history books as the beginning of France's rebirth after four long years under the Nazi yoke. And in passing, we'll evoke another singular destiny of this eventful period: that of the famous Bayeux Tapestry, which also returned from afar in the summer of 1944.
