This commemorative painting was created in the first quarter of the 20th century, following the First World War (1914-1918). It is displayed in the church of Saint-Pierre-aux-Liens to remind us of the heroes of Balaives-et-Butz who fought in this war. Located in the south aisle in the 1st bay on the west wall, this painting was produced in Lyon (Emaillerie Françoise Lyon). Made of metal and enamel, it measures 77cm high and 40cm wide. The upper part of this commemorative painting depicts the Sacré-Coeur with a soldier from the Great War fighting and a deceased soldier at his feet. The names DROXLER Fernand, POTIER Auguste, HAUTDECOEUR Auguste, DAPREMONT Emile and PONCELET Léon are written in black and white, and this work honours them. A signature and the place of execution are also inscribed at the bottom of the work.
