Sergeant York, american hero

Sergent YORK
Circuit historique du Sergeant York
Credit : Droits gérés

Description

Alvin York (1887-1964) was one of the most famous Americans of the Great War (328th RI-82nd DI US). On the heights of Châtel-Chéhéry, at the head of about ten soldiers, he destroyed more than ten batteries of German machine guns that defended the "Hindenburg" railway line, used to supply German troops. Repelling a bayonet attack, he took 132 prisoners and brought them back to the village. His exploits saved his battalion from defeat on October 8, 1918.

Walk in Sergeant York's footsteps along a historic trail that will take you to the battle sites (starting from the village - 3km route).
