South of Fléville and Exermont, the municipality of Apremont has a German cemetery with 111 individual graves. This cemetery, created in November 1915 for those killed in the Argonne forest, is the only one to keep a large part of the burial sites in their original state. You will see in particular the grave and tombstone of Baron Von Müllenheim-Rechberg, commander of the 5th fighter battalion, killed in the Haute-Chevauchée on 8 April 1916. In the cemetery is the monument of the 27th Landwher Regiment.
Did you know? Being located behind the front, on the German side, our territory has more German cemeteries on its soil than French.
