At the University of Caen and just a stone's throw from the castle, the Plan of Rome is a unique 70m² model built by Norman architect Paul Bigot between 1900 and 1940. Listed as a historic monument, it represents ancient Rome in the 4th century AD under Emperor Constantine I, and is the starting point for a virtual reconstruction.
Self-guided tours are available for individuals only. As the model is located on research premises, silence is compulsory!
The model can be viewed freely, without guided tours, during the MRSH's opening hours, Monday to Friday from 7.30am to 8pm and Saturday from 8am to 7pm.
From Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm, the model is lit automatically. Outside these hours, the model can be lit at will using a self-service switch.
Closed for the year: last week of July and first two weeks of August, plus the Christmas holidays.
Guided tours of P. Bigot's model and the virtual model are available for 1 hour or 1? hours on the scheduled dates, by prior arrangement only. Dates and times on the Plan de Rome website.
