The Gardens La Chaize

Description

17th century historical monument designed by Mansart. Please make an appointment if you wish to visit the gardens designed by Le Nôtre and taste the wines in the cellar which, incidentally, is the longest in the Beaujolais area (108 m).
The gardens have been set after the design of André Le Nôtre, on a lower level beneath the castle’s terrace, and were restored after a XVIIth century painting.
A planted slope following a festoon design and bordered by a bower repeating the design of the stone arcades on the upper terrace separates the French garden and its topiary (yew- and box-trees, laurocerasus rotundifolia) and the Potager or vegetable garden.
The Potager is organized around a central round pond and is divided into 72 radius-shaped rows plated with fruit-trees, vegetables and flowers and a collection of over 15 varieties composes the rose-garden.
The gardens are open to visitors from May to October on appointment only.
Château de La Chaize is partner of the “Rendez-vous au Jardin’ organized by the Ministry for Culture on the 1st week-end in June.
