
The current church replaces the Romanesque-style church that dated back to the 1200s. Wars and the vagaries of history had frequently damaged it to the point that it was restored or rebuilt several times.The old church was already dedicated to Saint Amand. Unlike the current building which is oriented north-south, it was positioned from east to west.
