This place offers different motives to make a stop. One of them is its magnificence granary of granite of the 18th century. With its almost 27 meters of length, is one of the biggest in Galicia. It’s based on 22 feet. It’s only surpassed in length by the ones of Rianzo, Lira and Carnota. This is possible due to the fact that in the place, where it’s also located the old Benedictine monastery of the 12th century, it has been recovered thanks to the initiative of a cooperative (Aurora de los Caminos) that got in 2012 the temporary transfer of the facilities. This group, formed by the old pilgrims that first met each other in 2005 in Foncebadón, while they completed the Camino Francés, rehabilitated the old monastery, with a minimal intervention, and the rectory, so they could stay there and to offer anyone that came there the enjoyment of the different activities and the possibility of relaxing while they had infusion, in exchange of any amount they choose to give.
If during the year the neighbors of the area are the ones who enjoy with the tenants of the property, with its charm of old walls, during the summer there are the pilgrims the ones who sleep in the granary or in the monastery, in which there is form them a room with bed (also in exchange in any amount they choose to give). The pilgrims enjoy the building, with its ecological garden, and the different stays of the monastery, where one can enjoy a nice cup of tea in good company.
The third monument of the place, after the granary and the monastery is, without any doubt, the Romanesque church of San Martín de Ozón. Original of the 12th century, the primitive temple preserves its Romanesque plant and two circular apses. The central one can be accessed by a half-point arch, supported by two columns topped off in capitals. Various reforms took place over the centuries that gave it its actual aspect. In the set it’s highlighted its bell tower with baroque style. Between the church and rectory house it’s conserved an ogival arch of the old monastery. In the temple were buried various members of the powerful Lema family.
