Built in the first half of the 12th century, on the borders of the Duchy of Lorraine and the County of Champagne, the Abbey of Sainte-Marie de Mureau belonged to the Prémontrés order, also known as Premonstratensians, and was an important place for trade. In particular, it housed a library with more than 4600 volumes (now kept in the Neufchâteau library). Nowadays, only a few vestiges remain, including the abbey gate, rebuilt in 1683 and consolidated in 2019.
The village of Pargny-sous-Mureau is home to
- a chapel dedicated to Saint Quirin built in 1669
- an 18th century church renovated in 2012
- a 19th century washhouse with an original chapel
- fountains and calvaries, including one from the 16th century
