Chapelle Notre-Dame de Grâce

The Chapel will be closed exceptionally on 25 August 2026.

Built in the 17th century, this chapel is adorned with paintings and model ships donated as votive offerings by sailors.
From the esplanade surrounding the chapel, there is a beautiful panoramic view of the Seine estuary, the port of Le Havre and the Normandy Bridge.

The carillon at the Notre-Dame de Grâce Chapel in Honfleur regularly plays an ‘Ave Maria’ composed by Louis-Alfred Lefébure-Wély, a 19th-century French organist and composer.
This is not the best-known version (that by Schubert or Gounod), but an original and rarer version, often referred to locally as the “Ave Maria of Notre-Dame de Grâce”.
This mechanical carillon is an integral part of the chapel’s musical charm. It plays several religious melodies, but Lefébure-Wély’s ‘Ave Maria’ is the one that rings out every day at 4 pm.
The bells also ring every quarter of an hour.
