The motte de Vaudu, located on the Gironde border, is a 15 m-high, 60 m-wide mound bordered by a crescent of earth. Legend has it that Duke Waifre, or Duke of Aquitaine, was buried here in 770. This feudal motte is said to have originated as an observation post over the Angoumois, Périgord and Bordeaux regions.
You can walk around the motte and admire the panorama. On-site educational panels explain the history of the site.
