Description

Located in Mortemart, a village classified as one of France's most beautiful villages, the Augustinian convent is a listed historic monument.
Cardinal Gauvain?s will provided for the foundation of a convent of Augustinian friars to educate 12 children. The current buildings are a reconstruction from the late 17th or early 18th century. The present-day town hall, formerly a secondary school, features a handsome double spiral staircase with wooden banister. The main building was designed by the famous architect Brousseau, author of numerous châteaux in the region, including the Episcopal Palace in Limoges.
