Description

Located in Badonviller, the National Cemetery contains the dead bodies of 2 653 french soldiers killed during the 1st World War (2 war memorials) and of 28 french soldiers died between 1939 and 1945.
This Cemetery gathers together the dead bodies from war cemeteries of Badonviller, Ancerviller, Angomont, Baccarat, Montigny, Neufmaisons, Pierre-Percée and Saint-Maurice.
On the 12th August 1914 the german soldiers sack the village of Badonviller, and several civilians were executed. German soldiers occupy the village from the 23th August to the 12 September 1914, and once again the 24th September 1914. When the french soldiers come in the village, the people of Badonviller were under the threat of the shots and the guns from March 1915 until armistice (November 1918).
Inside the National Cemetery of Badonviller you will find a sculpture to remember the killed men at La Chapelotte ; that sculpture, first raised at the pass La Chapelotte, has been moved to this Cemetery.
