Description

Built in the 12th century and altered at various times throughout the Middle Ages, this is a pleasant building to visit. On its south side, you'll notice an old walled door, known as the "porte des cagots": this separate entrance was reserved for these unfortunate outcasts, who were probably discriminated against because of their leprous ancestors. Under no circumstances were they allowed to mix with the rest of the population, nor were they allowed to wear distinctive clothing.

These murals, in good condition, feature the remarkable scene of "The Flight into Egypt". The story goes that King Herod of Palestine, having learned of the birth of Jesus, ordered the killing of all children under the age of 2: this was the "Massacre of the Innocents". Joseph, warned by an angel, took the child and his mother and withdrew to Egypt. The inscription reads "How our Lady fled to Egypt with her
