
The exploitation of stone in Fontvieille dates back to Roman times, but it flourished in the early fifteenth century. with the construction site of the Tarascon castle. This stone was also used for the creation of arenas of Arles and the Montmajour abbey. After the 1st World war, its activity declined, then during the Second World War, the quarry was used as ammunition depot to the French as to the Germans.
