If Cadenet follows the creation principles of hilltop villages of the Luberon (a castle in a high point, a church and a village with a concentric development), its uniqueness is based on the adaptation of the first housings' site. The houses then hung on to the steep sides of the rocky outcrop, of which the escarpment offered a triple interest:: defensive, climatic (shelter from the mistral) and architectural (cliffs from soft rock suitable for digging a cave dwelling).
