Fortified house.
15th, Renaissance and 19th centuries - Limestone.
According to oral tradition, Puy-Berton once housed a castle, destroyed during the Hundred Years' War. The site was probably occupied by a motte féodale or fortified house, built on a rock and surrounded by a moat or deep ditch on the hillside. The outpost kept watch over the valley in the event of the passage of armed bands. Buildings from different periods enclose an enclosed courtyard. The thick walls of this vast property are pierced by Renaissance openings. A square dovecote tower was erected at the same time. The living room still features an original chamfered door, as well as the locations of the sinks, the kitchen garden and the former interior circulation doors. The fireplace is adorned with a 17th- or 18th-century wooden lintel, carved with pampers or garlands of foliage...
