Château d'Yquem
Description
Occupying a high point in the Sauternes region, the illustrious Château d'Yquem is the only premier cru supérieur in Sauternes. Its vineyards cover 113 hectares. Since 1785, the castle belonged to the family of Lur Saluces. The towers date from the 15th century, the other buildings are built in the 16th century. The courtyard is accessible via 2 semi-circular porches, decorated with pilasters, which are set into the base of square pavilions. Bretches overhang these entrances. A massive well is situated in the middle of the courtyard.
