The Porte Bourbon, emblematic of the town of La Roche-Posay, is the only 12th-century main entrance still standing today. The other two gates disappeared in the 17th and 18th centuries: the Porte Saint-Louis (to the north) and the Porte de Guyenne (to the south). For many years, the Porte Bourbon was the main urban thoroughfare between southern Touraine and La Roche-Posay. Some trucks got stuck there, and drivers had to let the air out of their tires to get through!
