The Chapelle de Gabas was founded in 1121 in accordance with the wishes of Gaston IV, Viscount of Béarn. It was consecrated the same year by Arnaud d'Araux, Bishop of Oloron: Chapelle Gaston Phebus de Gabas.
At the confluence of the paths of Saint Jacques through the Ossau and Aspe valleys, this is the only remaining vestige of the "Hôpital de la Miséricorde" complex run by the canons of Saint Augustin from Candanchu. Over the two days of September 21 and 22, an exhibition will be set up in the Chapel: its origins, its history, its links with the hamlet of Gabas and the Pilgrim's Way to Santiago....
There will also be a presence in the chapel on both days, from 2pm to 5pm.
