Église Saint-Léger de Couthures-sur-Garonne

Overlooking the river like a figurehead, the Saint-Léger church in Couthures has suffered countless floods since its construction in 1851. Masutti?s 1942 work has also suffered from its proximity to Dame Garonne. While the wall of the north transept features a relatively intact Annunciation, its south-side counterpart, depicting the Education of Christ, is badly damaged.
In the choir, the triumphal arch is decorated with a scene depicting Christ teaching children. Marouflaged octagonal canvases in the lower section and mandorla-shaped canvases in the upper register complete the ensemble, inserted between the ribs of the apse?s five-sided vault.
