Saint Etienne chapel at Bionay domain

Description

Traces of a chapel date back to the earliest days of evangelization on the shores of Lake Geneva (around the 6th century).
Dedicated to Saint-Etienne (1st martyr), in the 9th century it housed a relic of Sainte-Anne, a reward received, according to legend, by Tristan de la Chapelle, the local lord.
Ceded in 1266 by Pierre de Savoie to the priors of Thonon and Bellevaux, it later became part of the history of the château built nearby. In the 16th and 17th centuries, it was the seat of a small parish, annexed to Publier, where Saint-François de Sales celebrated mass.
A fine example of rural architecture from the 12th and 13th centuries, it is listed as a historic monument.
