Description

Situated on a rocky promontory, only a few remains of this late medieval castle remain.
This ancient fortress, which once governed part of the Haute Auvergne region, belonged to Catherine de Médicis, daughter of Madeleine de la Tour d'Auvergne. The last owner, Dubois De St Etienne, acquired the property in 1777 and held it until the French Revolution. Probably occupied by the English in 1373, it fell into ruin at the end of the 15th century. Thanks to its dominant position, the Château de Thynières site offers a lovely panoramic view of the Dordogne gorges and the Château de Val. Open all year round.
