An eclectic monument
Architect Jean-Joseph Teillard built the opera house between 1891 and 1894, using the former cloth hall on Place de Jaude. The façade overlooking the square is enhanced by a monumental clock and caryatid décor.
The stage areas and the Italian-style auditorium are located behind the long façade of the hall. The main entrance is on boulevard Desaix. The eclectic architecture is lavishly decorated by sculptor Gourgouillon, with masks, garlands and allegories. The interior restorations undertaken by the City of Paris have restored all the lustre of the original decor.
This historic theater was completely restored in 2013, and the public can once again admire the staffwork and remarkable murals in the main foyer and auditorium.
Its cultural program is mainly musical. Numerous classical music concerts, recitals and operas are offered, mainly in partnership with the Orchestre National d'Auvergne and Clermont Auvergne Opéra.
Soft mobility: "Jaude" tramway station and C-Vélo station 50m away.
