Description

On the night of June 5-6, 1944, as thousands of Allied ships crossed the English Channel, carrying the soldiers who were to land at dawn on the beaches codenamed Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno and Sword, Major Howard?s men were huddled together, cramped in the gliders that took them to the two bridges over the canal and the Orne north of Caen.
Their mission: to land as close as possible to the bridges, which were defended by German forces, and immediately take control of them.

Come and discover the story of this incredible assault with Karine Poullard, a passionate guide and lecturer, who will also tell you about the local resistance, and the fighting that followed before the Liberation.

She will then take you to the Ranville Commonwealth War Cemetery, the final resting place of hundreds of soldiers and officers who died in the fighting in the area.

You can reach the cemetery by car, or on foot.
Length of visit: 2h00
