La Tour du Rempart

In the town center lies a real gem of Gournay's heritage, the Rue du Rempart with its fortifications and tower.
A fortified town from the Middle Ages, Gournay retains few traces of its past. Only this tower, the conical base of another and the ditches remain of this defensive structure. Both a stronghold and a seigneurial residence, these fortifications lost their usefulness after the Wars of Religion. The ditches were sold to private individuals, and the gates were successively destroyed.
