This side-gabled Baroque chapel, also known as the "Heilig Hiesel" (the Little Holy House), is rumored to be the work of a paralyzed Lutherian who managed to walk again thanks to a pilgrimage.
It is supposed to have been built in 1745 by the Order of the Recollects on the site of an oratory, right next to a former convent and its chapel, the Chapel of Our Lady of Lorette.
Originally, a statue of the Mater Dolorosa stood in a niche and overlooked the entire village of Hernolsheim. Only the vestibule of the chapel can be visited.
