Le Marais Vernier

Le Marais Vernier

Explore one of the most fascinating sites in Normandy, a gem in the Boucles de la Seine Normande Regional Natural Park. In the heart of the Boucles de la Seine Normande Regional Natural Park, the Marais Vernier (5 000 ha) is part of the European network of nature conservation sites for its outstanding ecological interest, and it is one of the most important peatbogs in France. This unspoilt natural environment is home to a wealth and diversity of fauna and flora. Ospreys, grey herons, white storks, Peregrine falcons live in harmony with reeds, irises, pollarded willows, carnivorous plants, etc. Among the different options available to explore the Marais Vernier, including the Thatched Cottage Trail, two nature reserves are open to visitors for self-guided tours: the Marais Vernier national nature reserve and the Courtils de Bouquelon regional nature reserve. A true haven for nature lovers, the Marais Vernier is maintained by Camargue horses and Scottish Highland cattle.
